Textile Cartographies
Japan


First Group, Fukuoka:
Coordinator: Melanie Sarantou

Participants: 
 mix of university students and elderly particants aged over 55. Students are men and women but elderly people are mainly women.
Process:   workshops during curricular time in the University, extra curricular  workshops in Kyushu University during 2024. 

During 20125  a  group of students from the DESIS-Q Societal Design Lab, Faculty of Design Kyushu University participated in this global project alongside more than 6000 participants organizing an international exhibition in the  Reading Hall, Design Library, Ohashi Campus, Kyushu University. 7-23 January 2025. 

 During  the last semester of 25 they will prepare a ‘Textile Cartographies’ video and physical installation with interactive sound playback dimensions to be presented in the Worldview exhibition, during 2025 Gwangju Design Biennale.

Second Group: Osaka
Coordinator: Emi Maegawa​
​
Participants:   house-wives, elderly people, kids…all the people who has not specialized skills for the arts.
Process:   workshops in the  calligraphy school and events. 
Staring date: April 2024

During March-April 2025 Emi Maegawa​ organised 2 exhibitions: ” Hokushodo” in a   Local private library in the  center of Osaka and Awai shokudo” in a Café restaurant in countryside of Osaka.

Third Group
Coordinator: Maho Sato

Participants: 2 student teacher, art teacher of junior high school, 15 students (13-14 years old, faculty of education experimental junior high school).
Process:  included in the school subject called 'integrated class (art group)' during March 2024. 
The project title was ...Sustainability and reborn fabrics, combining traditional recycled textile techniques, Sakiori and the idea of sustainability.
