The 2022 exhibition in Springfield, curated by Steve Willis , at The Cabot Gallery for Education through Art, Brick City, Department of Art and Design, Missouri State University.
The Group in Spingfield, Missouri started with Professor Steve Willis' participation in the international exhibitions in Portugal and Australia. In August 2022 Steve curated the International exhibition in Springfield, at The Cabot Gallery for Education through Art, Brick City, Department of Art and Design, Missouri State University. He disseminated the project among his students and colleagues, and by end 2022 two more artists joined the group: Erin Tyler and Ashley Mallonee.
This project is a response to the environment, sustainability, and humanity as it is seen through a lens of meditative practice that allows experiences to be viewed in many dimensions simultaneously – above, below, and between. Each person has been impacted differently by the extreme environmental changes resulting in resistance, fear, anger, frustration, depression, anxiety, but also an awakening to family and community, awareness of person and place, celebration of self and others, and much more. These images visually discuss a rehabilitative process through the transformative nature of silence, spirituality, and studio practices. Through this process, transformation is the poignant part of the process found in the intersection of the meditative silence of spirituality directing the images. These images visually address the space between the physical and spiritual, our perceptions and collective experiences as we move through space and time. They refer to the dimensional space between thoughts – the place of silence where humanity coexists with Divinity. This is a transformative and evolving process to align the inter/intra reality of the journey to becoming a complete human through artistic practices. Steve Willis
